The reviews looked great, so I decided to eat here twice this week to try a wider variety of dishes and give the place a fair, thorough review. As someone who has eaten these exact traditional dishes over many years, I wanted to see how they stacked up. I ordered the Pig Ear in Chilli Oil, Husband & Wife Lung Slices, Leftover Fried Rice, Chinese Fried Chicken, and the Pork Belly with Preserved Mustard Greens. The Pig Ear in Chilli Oil and Husband & Wife Lung Slices are definitely worth ordering if you are into spicy, authentic Chinese appetizers. Those were prepared very well and actually tasted legit. Unfortunately, the main dishes fell short. The Chinese Fried Chicken had decent flavor, but the breast meat pieces were completely dried out. I'm really not exaggerating when I say I couldn't even swallow those pieces of chicken. They really need to brine their chicken to keep it moist. The Pork Belly with Preserved Mustard Greens was a major letdown. While preserved mustard greens are supposed to be salty, this version was crazy salty and way too oily. On top of that, while pork belly is meant to have fat, the specific cut they used here was almost pure fat with very little me

Delicious spicy dry pot food with a variety of customizable ingredients to choose from. Delicious vegetable dumplings and cold noodles as well.

This review is long overdue—I first tried Mala over a year ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I find myself craving it all the time, and it’s honestly one of the highlights I look forward to on every NYC trip. The food brings the heat in the best way possible! I absolutely love the dry pot, especially with the wide variety of ingredients you can customize to your taste. Everything is paired perfectly with their beverage selection, and the service has been consistently outstanding every single time I’ve visited. Highly recommend and I CANNOT WAIT to come back 🩷

Service could be better - we asked for a dish to be taken back to the kitchen and they refused. Only when pressed did they offer to make a new one. However they charged us for it. Glad we checked the bill to make sure the second item was taken off. Food was good overall tho

I love the dry pot. The spices and herbs used in their MaLa sauce is just so good. We did have to wait a little to get seated but once we were, the seating had nice spacing. We loved the thousand year egg and the beef noodle soup was pretty good as well. Some other items on the menu like the dumplings and the pickled vegetables were just okay, noting really noteworthy. Overall I love coming here when i'm in NYC for the dry pot.
